Becca's Closet
(Collecting Formal Dresses for Prom and Homecoming)

In partnership with Atholton High School (a local Becca’s Closet Chapter), the Howard High School PTSA will begin collecting Prom and Homecoming Dresses in November 2022. Dresses should be either NEW or gently worn and no older than 5 years old. (Please, no Bridesmaids or Mother of the Bride dresses!) We are also collecting NEW or Like NEW shoes, accessories and bags.  We are in need of 12-15 full-length mirrors to help these young ladies pick the perfect dress.  Please drop off your dress donations to the rack located in Student Services and your shoe, bag and accessory donations in the box.  There are donation forms for you to take as a receipt.

Becca’s Closet is a national, non-profit organization that donates formal dresses to high school girls who are unable to afford the purchase them.  The local chapter is run out of Atholton High School in Columbia, MD and managed by the students and teachers.  The dresses are provided at no charge, YES, free! 😊  The closet works on a trust basis.  There is no paperwork or forms to qualify to receive a dress.

The organization was created to honor the work of Rebecca Kirtman who passed away in an automobile accident in August 2003.  In the Spring of 2003, Becca single-handedly collected and distributed over 250 Prom dresses to needy girls in South Florida so that they could attend their High School Proms.  http://www.beccascloset.org
