Prom, Homecoming, and formal dress donations - Partnering with Becca’s Closet
All this week, June 13-17 at Howard HS, dresses can be dropped off in the box in the front reception area of Student Services. After June 17th, please contact email@example.com to arrange to drop-off dresses. We will continue collecting donations year-round.
The Howard HS PTSA is proud to be partnering with Becca’s Closet, which is a national, non-profit organization that donates formal dresses to high school girls who are unable to afford to purchase them. All donations are tax-deductible.
The local chapter is run out of Atholton High School in Columbia, MD and managed by the students and teachers. Howard HS students are invited to select dresses from the collection. This will be beneficial to our upcoming Homecoming event this fall and Prom in the spring.
Drycleaning: The dresses do not have to be cleaned prior to donation. The local chapter has an arrangement to get the dresses cleaned.
Tax Deductible: All dresses donated are eligible for a tax deduction. Receipts are available in the drop-off box at school or on the local chapter's website.
What kind of dresses are accepted? The dresses can be any style of formal dresses are accepted. Girls can use them for Homecoming, Prom, or any other event in their life.
Are the dress available to Howard students? Yes, the local chapter out of Atholton provides the dresses to students in the area. Howard students can arrange to go to Atholton High School in Columbia to view and try on the dresses.
Cost to the Receiving Student: The dresses are provided to the student at no charge, yes, free :} The closet works on a trust basis - there is no paperwork or forms to qualify to receive a dress. The girls who receive a dress are encouraged to keep it.

About: The organization was created to honor the work of Rebecca Kirtman who passed away in an automobile accident in August 2003. In the spring of 2003, Becca single-handedly collected and distributed over 250 prom dresses to needy girls in South Florida so that they could attend their high school prom. http://www.beccascloset.org
